This stunning material is from Zimbabwe. The story of this pendant started 220 million years ago, during the Triassic period when the Earth would have been very different!
A tree fell and was preserved from decay in oxygen-depleted sediment that was saturated in minerals. The slow decay allowed these minerals to seep into the structure, replacing cell walls and filling the voids. This tree was in the presence of chromium compounds, creating the most beautiful greens that thread their way through it’s structure. 220 million years later it is found, immortalised by the Earth itself.
Helen then had the enormous privilege of cutting, shaping and polishing it and setting it into silver, ready to be worn by a man or woman who could not have been imagined by the dinosaurs or other lives that were touched by that very tree.
