Improve your cabochon cutting skills. You’ve learned the basics, so now it’s time to skill up!
This cabochon cutting course is designed for people who have already completed the beginners course and are itching to learn more.
About the Course.
As before, courses run from 10.00am until 4.00pm with a half hour break for lunch. This is your chance to have a bit of freedom to experiment with your newly acquired skills.
We have the diamond trim saw, the Ameritool flat lap and two fantastic Cabking’s — a 6” machine and an 8”machine. This time though, the course is more flexible.
Again, you can choose from our huge selection of rough rock but on this occasion you’re welcome to bring any of your own material, whether it be a favourite beach pebble or a precious piece of opal. You will also have access to the rarer materials here, such as turquoise, chrysoprase and charoite, plus the chance to re-cut tumble polished material. This is a particularly useful skill as you can already see what the final polish will be like before you start cutting. It also allows you to see into transparent stones, getting a better sense of the quality of the material. It’s often much easier to get hold of material this way as it’s readily available like this in the UK.
We’ll be having a lunch break at about 12.30pm so bring a packed lunch as before. I’ll be providing you with plenty of drinks and biscuits throughout the day.
You’ll be learning how to cut pear shaped or irregular shaped stones with outside curves, but also how to cut inside curves or multiple inside curves and how to shape and polish the tricky top surface.
You know where to find us, based in Beeston, Cheshire. We’ll leave a space for you to pull onto the driveway if you’re coming by car.
Don’t forget, we can collect you from the train stations at Crewe or Chester and return you at the end of the day.
